Gretchen the Greenhorn plot

Gretchen Van Houck has just arrived in the US on a ship from the Netherlands. She follows her father, who has lived in the country for several years and has his own printing company. The residential complex where the Van Houcks live contains residents of many nationalities. She quickly becomes good friends with the popular Pietro and the widow Garrity and her children. However, another resident, Rogers, is of a more mysterious nature. One day Rogers tells Gretchen's father that he can help him get a job. Namely printing money for the government, which Gretchen's father immediately assumes.
