Disney Classic #29

It is striking that only a few films after The Rescuers, Disney again comes up with a mouse story. And when a detective plays the leading role, there is of course only one setting possible: London. Strange that Disney takes a London from the past every time. In Lady and the Tramp, for example, we saw cars that were at least 20/30 years older than the fleet in 1955 and this time the makers even go back to the 19th century. The Great Mouse Detective has nevertheless become an entertaining film, but unfortunately I did not find the drawings very impressive.

Strong points are the characters and the voices. Ratigan in particular is perfectly voiced. The story is pretty straightforward and never really exciting. I don't think there are really classic scenes in it. It is entertaining and because of the nice songs and the successful denouement, it is more than sufficient for me.

3.5*

Nice Disney with nice characters. I had never heard of this one and it's that Woland tipped me this one, otherwise it wouldn't have appeared on my radar either. Initially I thought based on the title and poster that I would be too old for this, but it is also entertaining for adults. The somewhat childish poster does not suggest that behind this is a tad dark animation that, by the way, never really gets through. The story is solid and very broad, so a lot happens and it is therefore not very predictable. A small 3.5*

Ow really loved this one as a kid, it was one of the many Disney classics we had on VHS at home and I know I really loved this one. Was also a somewhat darker Disney film, including the creepy bat and that fat rat with his company. And that song Topper.
