Martha Vonk Gaat naar Istanbul plot

Hundreds of carpet sellers work in the Turkish city of Istanbul. In the square near the Hagia Sophia, at the Blue Mosque, the bridge over the Bosphorus, carpet sellers everywhere try to appeal to tourists and sell them a unique carpet. But the tourists, including a large number of Dutch people, come for the sights of the city, not to buy carpets. They must be tempted to leave Turkey with such a unique, hand-knotted example. Ahmet is one of the many vendors who approach tourists every day in the hope that they will buy a carpet from him. He has an important asset that brings him many customers: his Dutch wife Martha Vonk. To the Dutch on the street he tells a lot about her. That she is lonely in Istanbul and likes to speak Dutch so much. The tourists allow themselves to be persuaded and go with Ahmet. But Martha never shows up. Does that Martha actually exist?
