"A savage story of lust and ambition"
The English factory town is boring, but Joe Lampton has a good job with a future. To have something to do in the evening, he joins a drama club. His boss Susan's daughter plays ingenious roles both on stage and in real life. She is attracted to Joe and Joe thinks he can make a career faster as the boss's son-in-law. This plan is complicated by his strong desire to hit on an older other woman from the drama club. She is French and unhappily married. Joe thinks he can date both ladies.
