The Hours plot
"The time to hide is over. The time to regret is gone. The time to live is now."
It's 1949, and pregnant housewife Laura Brown is planning a party for her husband. At the same time, she reads the novel 'Mrs. Dalloway' by Virginia Woolf. Clarissa Vaughn, a modern woman living in the present, throws a party for her boyfriend Richard. Richard is a famous author who is dying of AIDS. These two stories are linked to the work and life of Woolf, who is writing the aforementioned novel.

For me the 3rd viewing of The Hours.
Not a bad movie, not in the least.
But still... in my opinion the score is used too much to give meaning to the plot.
And yes, sometimes it works. There are very meaningful moments in The Hours.
Stripe and Danes together, a memory of a thought, a moment when a life seems to be bursting open of possibilities, chances, luck.
That touched me. I went back to a place and time where I felt so free, where life seemed to be open to me. Now, some eight years later, it feels different.
Leonard and Virginia in particular steal the show for me.
I can't exactly put my finger on the element in this story that I like so much.... And actually it's consistent with the whole movie.
I find The Hours very fleeting, almost pretentious. She wants to evoke a lot, emotion, wants to touch on big themes. And succeeds in doing so.
Despite this feeling that the film gives me as a whole, I find some passages very moving. Still, even after seeing it a few times and knowing what's going to happen, I find Richard's story gripping.
Finally, I would like to emphasize Kidman's performance at Richmond station. A beautiful, penetrating scene.

A separate story where the past, and the book, are personified in later times by other people, resulting in a special storyline and parallels.
The film can best be characterized as a story in which three women are closely followed. Not only did all three of them have the problem of not appreciating and feeling out of place, Richard and Clarrisa in particular portray the characters with the protagonists from the famous book, Mrs. Dalloway, Laura, on the other hand, has a strong resemblance to Woolf herself. All three actresses show their strongest side, and the nose Kidman has on her head is quite similar to Woolf's own nose. By the way, she committed suicide at the age of sixty, but Kidman doesn't really give the impression of being that old at that time.
Anyway, the whole thing certainly exudes a certain quality, a great cast has been brought in, a great soundtrack by Phillip Glass and here and there a really nice atmosphere is created, like the setting in the 50s with Laura. But all in all it has been said there. It's very nice, and that's about it. Not really something that touches me.

Beautiful intense film, especially thanks to the great acting. Some books ask to be made into a movie. I don't think that's the case with this book, as there's a lot going on implicitly and beneath the surface. Fortunately, Kidman, Streep and Moore know what to do with it. This film is worth watching just for watching top actresses at their peak. And as said: Ed Harris shouldn't go unmentioned either.
The story is a bit complex in the way it is unfolded and the problems and questions that arise are a bit far from me, so the tragedy did not affect me very much. I could only really sympathize with the platform scene. Nevertheless, after the film you continue to talk a lot about the women and I intend to Mrs. Dalloway to read again.
Recommended. Strange trailer here with a completely different soundtrack..
