"He risked his life to save a rat... And what did he get for it?"
Young doctor James 'Jimmy' Kildare and his ex-patient, the impoverished Janet Healy, help save the life of gangster leader Hanlon. Hanlon rewards Kildare with $1,000 for his help. Janet is blackmailed by Inners, one of Hanlon's rivals. Janet wants to steal Kildare's money to pay Inners, but Kildare catches him. Disappointed Kildare doesn't want the reward anymore and considers returning the money to Hanlon. But when Kildare learns more about Janet's background, he reconsiders and lets Hanlon solve the blackmail case.
