I Love You, Man plot

"He needed a best man... He got the worst."

Peter Klaven (Paul Rudd) is a successful real estate agent who plans to marry his dream wife Zooey (Rashida Jones). To his horror, he finds out that he actually has no good friend to ask as a witness. Peter immediately sets to work to rectify this. He engages in some bizarre and wacky "man dates," until he meets Sydney Fife (Jason Segel), a charming, quirky guy with whom he gets along right away. But the closer their bond grows, the worse Peter's relationship with Zooey becomes, and he increasingly has to choose between staying at home with his fiancée or going out and drinking beer with his new best friend...

Rudd plays an irritating character who should compel the viewer's sympathy, this will not work. The lack of humor doesn't help either. Furthermore, Segel does play a nice role and Jones is not annoying as a woman who is of course not happy with everything. That does not result in cringe-inducing scenes here, perhaps a reversed reasoning, but in this genre that is a plus.

“Why is it weird that I have girl friends?”

Friendly. The fact of a man who is getting married and does not have a 'best man' makes for a fun and recognizable film. Especially Rudd is doing well here and he forms a nice duo with Segel. Segel is decent as always, but at some point he gets a bit annoying.

The film doesn't want to be really funny either, although it has its moments. Favreau is very strong and the best moments come from the supporting roles. Rashida Jones, Pressly, Simmons, Samberg etc. They all have their moments. The film follows the regular rom-com pattern, but it's not that bad.
