Twenty-year-old Sally Kelton is dissatisfied with her life in the drab industrial city, until she meets itinerant musician Steve Ryan. Sally falls for Steve, but for Steve, Sally is one of his many girlfriends, whom he meets in every city. Sally decides to follow Steve and takes the bus to his next stop. On the way, Sally meets Drew Baxter, owner of a town cafeteria, which she is on her way to. Drew helps Sally get a room at a local landlord and offers her a job at his company. Drew, who is in love with Sally, goes out of his way for her, but he can't win Sally's heart. Sally remains in love with Steve, who remains indifferent even after Sally's arrival. When Steve leaves for South America to perform, Sally becomes despondent, especially after learning she is pregnant with Steve.

Powerful drama about a young woman who falls for the wrong man and doesn't see the good guy who comes her way later.
Later it turns out that she is pregnant, but the man she is in love with has dumped her and left.
The drama is strongly built up by means of an opening intro in which we start at the end of the story and then see everything that came before in a kind of long flashback.
The story is told very realistically and the blame is not clearly placed on one of the two.
The happy ending may be romanticized but it is beautifully done.

Melodramatic, the story of this film that will certainly have enjoyed a certain success at the time, despite the lack of stars in the cast. However, it is precisely the sobriety and the addressing of a, for that time, social drama that constitutes the strength of the film. The audience will also have gladly accepted the happy ending, if only because true and faithful love ultimately wins.
A black and white from the 40s is a good idea every now and then, especially this "Not Wanted".
