Mandabi plot
'Mandabi' tells the story of Ibrahim Dieng, who lives peacefully with his two wives and seven children in Dakar, Senegal. When he goes to a hairdressing appointment himself, his two wives receive a money order from France from his cousin Abdou. The whole neighborhood is aware of the opportunity, and the check gives rise to total chaos. His wives buy on credit, others try to extort money, still others take advantage of his naivety and try to rob or scam him. This piece of paper thus becomes a symbol of shame and loss.
