Joe Mundy is released from prison and an ex-convict friend tells him the location of a stolen shipment of gold worth $250,000. From prison, Joe is chased all the way to Glendale, Arizona, by Little Brother Williams. In Glendale, Joe meets waitress Henrietta Clifford after being badly mistreated by Little Brother. At the guest house where Henrietta is staying, Joe meets Mrs. Williams and her sons, Little Brother and Clem, and Uncle George. mrs. Williams tells Joe that her husband had taken part in the robbery, but was killed before he could reveal the location of the stolen gold. Joe knows that the gold is at 'Lake Mead', but upon arrival it appears that the valley is under water due to the construction of the 'Hoover Dam'. The Williams family's frustration turns against Joe and they want to kill his girlfriend Henrietta.
