Saw this movie again last night on Fearonica, every year they broadcast it around Helloween but I can keep watching it. I think what happens in it is very good. It is a surprising story and the film is well put together.

I recently saw The Conjuring but I didn't like it at all while there was someone who thought it was the best horror movie of all time which again I can't understand, but good tastes differ quite a bit, also because there are people who only give this film a 1.0 so I don't understand. And I really liked that fight in the car. especially when Christine managed to keep that witch out of the car for a while and shouted I win bitch I couldn't help but laugh. but just a good movie. I've already seen it 3 or 4 times and will definitely watch it again next year.

Sam Raimi takes a situation that can occur every day and mixes this everydayness with elements that could have stepped out of a creepy fairy tale. The result is an entertaining mix of fairytale horror and real-life horror, topped with a layer of humor.

It's an uncomplicated movie. The story is understandable and pretty straight forward. The characters are pleasantly superficial. The things that happen to them are not complicated. The film feels fresh and unaffected, which makes the film easy to watch.

The movie sequence is also simple. The film has an easy rhythm that repeats itself over and over. There is a phase of calm, which is interrupted by the initiation of threatening music that swells inexorably. Then there is noise. Noise. A door that slams shut. A window that rattles. A jump scare. It's the well-known tricks. But they do work.

So there is something opposite. And that is real horror. Sometimes a scene is expanded with the help of quick editing into something that reverberates in a disturbing way for a long time. Something chilling. Something scary. Swelling music does not always result in a senseless shock. Luckily not. Sometimes there is real horror. And even then the rhythm doesn't change. Even then there is always a phase of rest and it is a matter of waiting for the next wave of excitement. It doesn't sound very subtle and it is. It is, after all, a simple rhythm. However, it does work.

The humor also works. Evil is portrayed humorously. Evil is an old gypsy who is presented as a confused madwoman. Overly authentic with a hideous appearance and with bizarre and dirty habits. She's scary and ridiculous at the same time. Kudos to the makeup.

And so 'Drag me to Hell' is a fine film full of moments of excitement, humor and theatrical disgust. So nice!
