Little horror. More thriller, but of a low level. Kevin Costner plays like a stiff rake and his playing made me frown. What is the man doing here? Apart from the bad acting, the film is very long-winded and it never gets exciting. The entire film feels as if everything has been rushed and made with little interest.

I had brought this one along, because the story still appealed to me, but in the end I didn't think it was all that special.

In the end, it's not all that exciting and it also gets off to a fairly slow start. I also thought the elaboration was fairly standard and the cast wasn't that special either.

All fairly standard and one that I will soon forget.

Great to see if you don't know what to do, but I certainly wouldn't buy this one.

Be as stubborn as an ass

I never learn either. The New Daughter isn't exactly hailed as a good movie, but I ignored all the bad reviews and, against my better judgement, put up with this title. The story appealed to me, Kevin Costner is a pleasant actor to watch and I was in the mood for a cliché horror film.

''Have I really been waiting an hour and a half for this?!?'' However, was my first thought that came to my mind when the monkey came out of the sleeve and the film came to its conclusion. Although this denouement is actually pretty cool and original, it was so poorly worked out that it wasn't worth watching. The goblins(?) were such a huge disappointment that they destroyed the entire build-up in one fell swoop. This is very annoying when you consider that this build-up takes about an hour and a half, while hardly anything actually happens and it was actually quite boring. The construction is not really bad anywhere, but it is very standard and not innovative at all. You do not have to be an enthusiast to have seen this concept many times before.

In addition, the scares that were used were often miserable. Something is not quite right if you want to put your film under the thriller/horror segment. And let's go: that scare moment with that crack that jumped into that window was nicely timed and shook me awake again. Furthermore, this seemed like a really bad rendition of a horror movie from the 1980s. Including worthless effects that is..

2.0*
