Unbelievable, you really have to have a sick mind to finish this movie. I got the shivers when I saw that innocent dogs and a baby in such an inhumane situation are obliged to accept it and go along with it. (Or play along, whatever you want to call it because it's still a movie) one word for this - disgusting! It still horrifies me. I just thought I was seeing a horror film with an average high score (which is really incomprehensible, there is nothing about it that makes you think : hey, that was a good film I have to recommend it to people Please tell me Then there are people who respond: I enjoyed it! It's scary that people enjoy this...

How low have you fallen as a film producer if you make a scene in a movie where an underage girl is raped. Shocking! You really don't want to see something like that, regardless of film or not. It happens in the world, but who knows what kind of perverts get a kick out of this. You don't track if you want to score viewing figures in such a way. And slaughter a dog? Just the idea, it disgusts me. This isn't a horror movie, this is pure miserable psychic crap, if this movie has really amused you you should check yourself if you're 100 up there.

Oh, reconsider.

As a director there used to seem to be a similarity between his films, but nowadays he is expanding his qualities. However, his earlier films, which were a bit rougher and meaner, suit me much better. The Hills Have Eyes was his first gift to American horror and it is certainly still there.

What is striking about the film is that after a nice opening it takes some time to give us a better picture of the main characters. The family never wants to be particularly interesting, but the variety is welcome. For example, it is not the standard family with mom, dad and kids, but now a baby and boyfriend of one of the kids is also walking along. Original? Not exactly, but extra food to finish off course.

Make-up and surroundings are strongly portrayed, only I thought that the violence could be just a little harder. It is certainly mean, sometimes quite merciless, but when it really comes to the kills themselves, Aja cuts away a little too quickly. The filth on display is certainly intriguing, but the time and focus is never taken to portray it appropriately. This is a missed opportunity, especially during the revenge scenes.

Acting is not special either, but otherwise Aja manages to keep us fascinated without difficulty for a playing time that doesn't slack for too long. The horror is also shown nice and raw in-the-face, a direct approach that I always appreciate from Aja. The second half also has a pace that can lead us smoothly through the story.

In my opinion this is one of the better horror movies. It's also not that difficult since quite a lot of movies are not of the highest quality these days. Such a sinister sauce as this film is not easily repeated, including by Aja herself. Still, I like to keep watching how he will develop as a director, because he must still be able to shake a small masterpiece out of his mouth.
