Just watched it for the second time and I liked it better than the first time. Even better I must say. Very strong post-apocalyptic drama that doesn't rely on exaggerated action and spectacle, but it is precisely that sober rawness that makes it hit extra hard. The choices the father makes seem unsympathetic, but everything revolves around the well-being of his son. The atmosphere is occasionally reminiscent of The Walking Dead and the game The Last of Us, but it's all a bit more subdued here. Gloomy hopelessness that makes me appreciate my full fridge even more than I already did. Highly recommended in this genre!

Pessimistic and frightening vision of the future.

"Towards" theme but good film with excellent setting and acting.

Flashbacks clarify and are appropriate and not excessively frequent and also bring variety.

Also some witty scenes in which the boy's attitude does not correspond to that of his father and when the boy does want certainty about "belonging with the good"

Towards the end also more emotion, fortunately acceptable dose.

What a dark, fucked up, gloomy and depressing film, but at the same time so pure and beautiful. Didn't expect to find this one so good, but it really is a topper as far as I'm concerned. I understand that it's not a movie for everyone; it is very slow and also really very bleak. If you want to watch a movie that leaves you with a good feeling, skip this one.
Visually there is a lot to enjoy. Cinematography is top notch, the environments and backgrounds are darkly beautiful, the apocalyptic atmosphere of damnation drips from every image. And Viggo Mortensen plays a brilliant part. That man is really one of the better actors out there. However, the son also played very well, and especially at the end I got a lump in my throat.
A few hopeful moments (that bug, the family at the end ), but this film mainly sets itself apart from others in the genre in the sense that there is nowhere really a light at the end of the tunnel. Was very powerful for once.
