Very poignant: the child who dies, the thoughts and feelings surrounding it and the rituals that are performed before the funeral, for example the washing of the dead body.
If you have ever experienced (a) death(s) up close, things like this are recognizable.

The children act naturally and the atmosphere is very well created. The tough tramp and gang life of the street children looks very realistic.
The images are good, sometimes an animation in between and the score is appropriate, not striking.
A raw portrait of the bottom layer of society and a highlight in particular of death and mourning, alongside fantasy and dreams of the children to make reality more bearable.

It is in any case remarkable that the children are played by real street children and they are really wonderful.

What is striking is the childhood of these young people in addition to their mental alertness to survive without guidance or support.

Despite the sadness of their existence, they continue to dream, fantasize and hope.

Good movie. Reminds me of "Slumdog Millionaire" there where it talks about selling eyes. "Blind beggars are more successful" is the reasoning of human traffickers and pimps in whose hands these children are in danger of ending up.

A harrowing account of a few street children who have a daily struggle to survive and also have to deal with other youth gangs. A very futureless life, without being able to fall back on parents or other adults. It makes these children hard and often ruthless. That's how we discovered... The story is set in Moroccan Casablanca, but the difference with the Brazilian children in a favela or a slum in Nigeria or India is essentially the same.

Very strong acting by the kids. Very authentic performance from everyone. The hard existence is well presented. Raw and poignant, but all in all also child-sized (with a light-hearted approach). Is this film also not offered as a youth film or was it not promoted on JEF at the time?
