BB #18

She has a leading role again, but this film is clearly much, much less than EDCLF, Effeuillant, Gamine, and Lumière. It is not Bardot's fault; you can see occasionally that she is trying her best, but the direction is simply substandard, and perhaps too rushed as well. They couldn't even manage to use color film, and virtually the entire thing takes place cheaply and lazily inside the studio. The story isn't particularly grandiose either, a return to the lame farces with which BB started her career. Based on a book by Odette Joyeux—a beautiful name, and perhaps the book was better too. That her husband Philippe Agostini co-wrote it, hmm. Perhaps none of this is sufficiently objective.

All films by director Gaspard-Huit—another beautiful name—are more or less forgotten as I browse around here. Somewhere, that doesn't really surprise me.
