Wonderful documentary. First of all, this gives a nice glimpse into the life of Ukraine, and the healthcare there. In addition, you get to deal with very warm people, which helps to empathize. Also some beautiful images of the decline in the old Soviet Union. So substantively interesting, stylistically beautifully shot. As a good documentary should be.

During a visit to Ukraine, surgeon Harry Marsh discovered the appalling medical care in that country. Partly inspired by his colleague Igor Petrovich, who does his job as well as possible under these circumstances, Marsh offers his help. He provides more sound surgical equipment and returns regularly to diagnose and – if possible – treat patients. Starts as an indictment of the Ukrainian health care system (and the lack of financial and material support), but mainly turns out to be a portrait of two passionate surgeons in which we see how much they care about the fate of their patients, especially if they only realize that the person in question could have been saved in another country. Contains a lot of explicit footage of operations, including brain surgery under local anesthesia, so definitely not suitable for people with a weak stomach.
