Very nice film that harks back to Ozu's films in terms of theme, but in a more modern jacket. Several family relationships are unraveled in this drama and that occasionally leads to abrasive and wry situations. The father is a grumpy man, who likes to isolate himself and mother tries to keep the peace. Together they have a son, a daughter and together with supporters and children they gather with their parents to remember their drowned son.

So I am pleased with this film, everything is recorded very calmly and thoughtfully by Koreeda and that fits in with how the family members interact with each other. You occasionally feel the tensions under the skin, but also the resignation to the status quo. In the end, nothing really special happens in the film, but I like that sometimes. Just a movie where you observe how people interact with each other. Nothing more and nothing less.

Happy Korean again. What makes his films so enjoyable is the realism. No big tears, gestures or melodramatics, but genuine emotions and characters that feel real and that have more in common with the normal viewer than characters in most films. And that with a rippling pace and a quiet recording camera makes this always a good viewing experience. However, that is also why his films never get under the skin completely, for that his films lack just that little bit extra that some directors do put in. But they are often big enough that suit me perfectly.

This film again, in which there are all kinds of frustrations about a son who has never felt completely accepted and fully-fledged with his father (and mother), by not following in his father's footsteps and now again being a widow with child. marry. In the end, nothing happened, and it did, and in the end this is much closer to reality than many other movies. Most people just live like this, never let emotions run free, but rather swallow them or talk them out. A movie ends after 2 hours, real life continues and you often act accordingly. Beautifully understated acting and especially that sister was great who really felt like the daughter of and the sister of. Just nice to watch people making fried corn. Furthermore, some atmospheric warm sunny images of a Japanese town on the hills on the coast. 4.0*.

What a beautiful movie. Very pure and realistic, atmospheric and pleasantly looking away. As is often the case in Japanese films, there is a lot of focus on food, which I like. It could all be such an unplayed scene. The actors play very believable and the film has a certain calm, which I really appreciate. Definitely one of the best Koreeda movies I've seen. 4.5*
