Waga Koi wa Moenu plot
The period around 1880 is important in Japanese history because it was during this period of Meiji politics that liberalism emerged. The young woman Eiko leaves her traditional family in the province to help with this liberalization in Tokyo. She is particularly active in the women's movement. When she marries liberal champion Kentaro Omoi, they endure many hardships, including in prison. When the new regime comes to power in 1889, they are released, but it turns out that Omoi has only proclaimed the liberal ideas and does not apply them in his own household.
