Crime against Joe plot
"HE WAS ACCUSED OF THE FOULEST ACT A MAN CAN COMMIT!"
Joe Manning returned from the Korean War a different person and became an artist. In this he was supported by his understanding mother Nora, but discouraged by others. In a drunken stupor, Joe flirts with the singer Irene Crescent, who is later found dead. She was murdered by a serial killer, but Joe is the prime suspect. No one, except hitchhiker Frances "Slacks" Bennett, stands by him. Can both find the culprit before the culprit finds them?
