In an anti-radar experiment, a naval ship disappears without a trace from the naval base in Philadelphia in 1943. Two sailors from the ship are thrown 40 years into the future and end up in 1984.

A mediocre film about two sailors who end up in the future during an experiment in World War II. One of the many time-travel films from the 80s, but a weaker one. The special effects are quite dated, and although the fish-out-of-water element is sometimes entertaining, it could have been better. That actually applies to the rest of the film as well.

Strictly for the connoisseur... I knew beforehand that this wouldn't amount to much. The story is as simple as it is pleasant, with enough potential. Someone from the distant past lands in the present day, like a fish out of water. You can do very nice or moving things with that. But that hardly succeeded.
Some will attribute that partly to the uncharismatic pretty boy Paré. But the script isn't very well written either. For example, he asks the always graceful Nancy Allen why she is helping him, and it remains a "well... I don't know." And admittedly, there are some funny little things here and there—he doesn't understand a Coke can and stares mesmerized at a color TV... but it could have been so much better. And there is no tension in the chase either.
All in all, I found this to be a reasonable pastime; the almost angelic Allen, in particular, seems to save it somewhat. Anyone seeking higher-quality spectacle, suspense, or drama would be better off watching something like Back to the Future.
Those who do enjoy Michael Paré can give another sci-fi B-movie a try, the not-so-highbrow (but at times unintentionally belly-shakingly funny) Moon 44.

Wow, what a lot of comments here.
All "experts" of these kinds of films, of course?
And then trashing a film from before the turn of the century, while you yourselves weren't even born yet.
But of course, they do praise all the crap from today's "superhumans" like Spider-Man and Fantastic Series to the heavens.
This film certainly shows a number of things that contemporary films, using their most modern and expensive equipment, all manage to translate into convincing images in an instant and within half a minute.
Watch this film with an open mind, without your contemporary science and so-called contemporary "expert" in this field.
Back then, we were all addicted to Knight Rider, and this movie took it a step further.
Just because you are trashing this movie, it deserves at least a 5-star rating now.
But yeah, you Conspiracy theorists won't understand that anyway, you bunch of Internet Hooligans!
