In ancient China, where the seven superpowers battle each other, Yen Feier (Kelly Chen) is suddenly forced to succeed her father when he is killed in battle. She and her loyal friend Muyong Xuehu (Donnie Yen) try to defend her kingdom. However, Wu Ba, an ambitious cousin, has other ideas and wants to make Yen Feier disappear. A mysterious man saves Feier from her demise. She falls in love with this man, who also offers her a completely different life. With the fate of the kingdom in her hands, the young heiress must make an important decision.

Chinese combination of romance (1st half) and action (2nd half). Fight scenes mediocre, sets also mediocre. The film music is really annoying and frequently prominent where it shouldn't be. Barely a passing grade.

A pleasant film, but nowhere near a real masterpiece. The film is primarily a somewhat clumsy love story set in an epic action movie. However, that action doesn't really come across well. With a name like Donnie Yen on the poster, you might expect that, though. He does appear, but that is about all there is to say. The attention goes mainly to Kelly Chen and Leon Lai, who do their best but are not great actors. Fortunately, the film looks beautiful and the scenes in the treehouse are still worthwhile. The film isn't bad either, and I quite enjoyed it. But it will never become a classic.
