Story of a Beautiful Country plot

'To understand your country you have to take a journey', says a South African proverb. Ten years after the abolition of apartheid, filmmaker Khalo Matabane drives from his native village in the north to Cape Town in the south. The documentary is a balanced road movie that shows the ambivalent attitude of many South Africans towards their country in sometimes intimate, sometimes seemingly trivial conversations with passers-by. It is a beautiful country, everyone agrees about that. But the memories of apartheid are still there and equality is still just a slogan for many people.
