A Promise to the Dead: The Exile Journey of Ariel Dorfman plot
The life story of writer and activist Ariel Dorfman is one of exile. Born in Argentina, raised in America, he ends up in Chile with his parents. During the three years of Allende's reign, he feels alive as never before. As a cultural adviser to the government, he has to evade the military coup. As one of the few survivors of the Allende government, he is tasked with telling their story. With stories full of memories, desires and dreams of democracy, he culturally resists the regime in Chile. In the documentary, in addition to Dorfman himself, various other eyewitnesses speak about the years of Allende and the subsequent dictatorship.
