"It's not what you think."
When reporter David Farrier discovers a video online of a bizarre "tickling competition" in which young men are paid to be tied up and tickled, he contacts the company to make a story about it. However, the answer he gets is shocking: the company threatens legal action if he investigates further. Farrier, however, does the opposite. He travels to the secret "tickling settlements" in Los Angeles and uncovers a vast empire.

Started off okay, but fizzled out pretty quickly.
Either there are thousands of documentaries who never see the light of day because they end with a complete fizzle, or documentary makers are very lucky. Or perhaps there are too many documentaries that are all just a little too exciting and just a little too coincidentally stumble upon mysterious revelations.
In any case, I find it difficult to take this kind of documentary/reportage seriously. Because honestly, it is not much more than a long "Scammed" report, especially in the second part. One-sided reporting, a bit of stalking and a lot of suspicion in the form of stories about images that don't say much. The somewhat obscure sounding music does most of the work.
The start is still nice, but when it becomes clear what Farrier is dealing with, the level drops quickly. Somehow these kinds of stories never really convince me, probably because there is plenty that should not see the light of day, but in those 90 minutes I get too poor a picture of what is and is not orchestrated. Then I can look it all up afterwards on the internet, but what use is such a documentary?

Good beginning, mediocre middle and a satisfying ending.
The beginning is very interesting. The whole mystery of who is really behind the "tickle" videos is kept well intact. In addition, some discoveries are quite fascinating and it promises to be a very enjoyable documentary. Things become less interesting in the second half. This is mainly because the filmmakers themselves take away the power of the mystery very quickly and want to come up with their denouement too quickly. They would have done better towards the end. What follows is a flood of information that is somehow less compelling. Towards the end it becomes a bit more interesting and David and Dylan manage to reach a satisfying conclusion.
Great documentary with a strong first half.
