Entertaining film that, in my opinion, relies mainly on the acting. You can actually see from afar in which corner the real culprit has to be sought and immediately know what the consequences will be, firefighters will die in their fight against the fire. A little touch of romance, lots and lots of americana, just think of the scene where a son is holding his father's helmet and the funeral of the firefighters. Good action, albeit unbelievable at times.
But the show is stolen by de Niro and Sutherland, especially the scene at the hearing is very strong. Every so often this film is broadcast on TV, well then it is well worth watching.

good disasters film I also love those films at first you don't understand well you think again the umpteenth film about fire brigade and fire but after a while the tension starts when de niro starts investigating the fire. then if he does some kind of demonstration or experiment in that building then understand what the title of the movie is and what backdraft actually is. good actors good special effects. then imagine how those firefighters risk their lives every time to go into those buildings. imagine if such a thing existed. Belgium and the Netherlands is not so bad but America man that film like this one with that skyscraper or whatever happened 9/11 with those towers. respect for all those people

After 30 years, revisiting the film. This time on 4K Blu-ray.

The last time I saw the movie was when it just came out on rental video. The only thing that has stayed with me is the sentimental ending, which I thought was quite exaggerated at the time.

A revision in 4K does the film a lot of good, because Backdraft has to rely mainly on the images and less on the content. The action scenes are well captured by director Ron Howard. That it is all very exaggerated, the film is forgiven. In the field of action, she certainly does not disappoint.

However, the content of the film is mediocre. The plot is predictable, characters have little depth and certain storylines (such as the relationship between Brian and Jennifer) lead nowhere at all. The acting is variable. William Baldwin falls short as the protagonist. He doesn't have enough charisma to wear a movie like this. Fortunately, there is also Kurt Russell, who somehow manages to save this film. The film does not offer striking supporting roles and especially big names such as Robert DeNiro and Donald Sutherland add little to the whole.

Backdraft is visually certainly successful, but substantively it disappoints.
