Judith Ralitzer (Fanny Ardant), femme fatale and bestselling author, is questioned at the desk of the Quai des Orfèvres about her possible ties to 'Le Magicien', an escaped serial killer who gets his name from the tricks he performs in front of his victims. Also, at a gas station, after an argument with her boyfriend, Huguette (Audrey Dana), a promising young hairdresser, is accosted by a mysterious stranger (Dominique Pinon), who is eager to strike up a conversation. Would the writer, who is looking for characters for her latest hit novel, really have contact with the serial killer? And how does the conversation between Huguette and the unknown develop?
