For me it's about the total picture, whether it's a remake or a western or not, I don't care.
It looks nice, acting was of a high level, music and editing fine, just enjoy.
Why always compare with the old stuff from years ago.
It's how you look at that movie anyway, plenty of young people who don't even know the old version.
No western? ok but fine for me.
You will not compare a Dafje from 1960 with the city cars of this time, and they drive a lot better.
Old version was good, but with today's features, I liked this one better.

Nice old fashioned Western. The good guys against the bad guys. It really isn't much more and a lot of thinking to follow the storyline is not necessary. The story and the characters have little to do with it. It's all very straight forward. Simple but attractive.
Remake of the 1960 film of the same name, which adds little to the original. Well, the language is a bit more modern and crude. And the characters are less polished. Some look quite unkempt and shunted. Less smooth than in 1960.
Lots of action and old-fashioned shooting. Nice.
The score also harks back to old times. Pompous music that wouldn't look out of place in Westerns from years ago. Funny that the original theme music can also be heard in this context.
The new Magnificent Seven is just a nostalgic Western, which is very pleasant to look at.

Boy, this is a setback.
A bunch of men on horses doesn't make a Western,
Not that I'm a fan of the genre, but a little more true to the zeitgeist would have been nice.
It didn't warm me up. *2.5
