Wonderful setting! In a castle. Old and dark with many rooms, hallways, and eerie sounds. Could it be creepier? Could it be more atmospheric? Yes, the setting is magnificent.

The story is mediocre. Lots of coincidences and desperate attempts to connect things. The attempts to add a psychological layer to the characters even seem pathetically simple. This doesn't make the characters any less meaningless, however.

The daughter's visual impairment works well. As a viewer, you know more, creating the opportunity for empathy. Feelings of pity and frustration can surface when her daughter fails to grasp the situation. Oh well, sweet girl.

The monster initially behaves rather clumsily and gave me reason for much amusement. It doesn't seem like a good introduction to a terrifying creature. When the monster starts to indulge in some serious hardcore gore, it's initially questionable whether its bizarre behavior is worthy of a laugh. The answer is no, but it takes a while for the penny to drop. Once it does, the monster is quite enjoyable.

The final scenes, in which things are courageously set right, are rather theatrical and detract from the impressive monstrous Gore we've just endured. Not exciting and a weak finale.

Castle Freak is a horror film, where the atmosphere, the appearance of the monster and the gore make an impression.

Great movie. The atmosphere is good, and Combs is fun to watch. I expected a bit more gore. The film is a bit tame in that respect, but that doesn't detract from the overall quality of the film.

A uniquely atmospheric horror film that easily captivates the viewer until the very end. The setting is superb: a huge castle with countless rooms, corridors, and a creepy cellar. The atmosphere is excellent thanks to the colossal castle, which harbors a very sinister secret. The cast is convincing, and the monster looks quite frightening. A sizable creep who, despite initially eliciting some sympathy, gradually develops into a bloody, terrifying creature due to circumstances. The story is carefully constructed, with attention paid to the various characters. There aren't many kills in the story, but the scene with the hookeris one to remember. It's a shame about the simple execution towards the end, although it does fit the overall concept of the story. I really enjoyed this horror film, which I hadn't rated highly beforehand. So there you have it 7.5/10
