Flic ou Voyou plot
Nice is controlled by a Corsican gangster who kills a police commissioner with impunity. A commissioner of a special department of the police arrives to investigate. When he discovers that the vice squad inspectors have connections to the underworld, he takes them out and the mobsters out.

Watched this this afternoon, it was once broadcast to the Netherlands, but I couldn't really remember anything about it.
Average French crime film, actually meant seriously, but the only one who clearly does not do this is protagonist Belmondo, who is (over)acting in almost every scene with a roguish face.
The very calm, often quite jazz-like music also constantly undermines the tension.
Some nice stunts and action scenes.
Not bad, but nothing extraordinary.
Only for real Belmondo fans... and even then it's only just enough.
A six, or three stars.

The first collaboration between Georges Lautner and Belmondo, and also a box office success. It is not surprising that several more films would follow with this team. Flic ou Voyou is a combination of action and comedy, and for me it works well here. The action is spectacular at times and the humor hilarious. Belmondo also has the right head for it. This is good pulp.

A terribly disappointing crime comedy with Bébel. A commissioner with unusual working methods pits two notorious gangsters against each other in Nice after a corrupt cop and a prostitute are found murdered. I thought the humor was great for the film. If it had still been fun, I could still live with it. Unfortunately it all remains quite bland. Things start to get a little less fun for Borowitz/Cerruti when his own daughter is kidnapped. Then it actually gets a little more spicy. I've seen a few films with Belmondo, but I consider this one of his least. I like him in slightly grittier action films, but as soon as he tries to be funny he becomes extremely annoying.
