A fine opportunity for Sinatra to gather all his friends plus some admired fellow actors around him: he wanted them all in a film, but not in a reprise of their stage shows, but in a real story, and the plot of this film was perfectly suited for that. The consequence, however, is that so much time is devoted to the non-functional introductions of the characters that even the Rat Pack-star-struck audiences should surely get tired of it – and that while most characters haven't even been given any real depth (with the Texan Louis Jackson as the low point: his Southern drawl is just about his entire characterization). Once the job finally gets going following the explanation by Sinatra and Lawford, the film becomes much more enjoyable; moreover, from that moment on, along with the slow pace, Akim Tamiroff's irritating slow-burn frustration and Sinatra's "funny" (and obviously dubbed) fake voices disappear from the film, which greatly benefits the pacing and enjoyment. Sammy Davis gets the most opportunity to shine (partly due to his beautiful Eee-o-eleven), and Richard Conte's tragic character also stands out, but as The One Ring notes, it is Cesar Romero who steals the show with his stature and exuberance and dominates every scene in which he appears, although even his character cannot foresee that beautiful ironic twist. And I doubt whether many modern viewers will want to take the trouble, but on a second viewing, the minor imperfections stand out less (to me, at least), and the qualities actually stand out more, such as the beautiful cinematography, the professional (albeit somewhat languid) direction, and the ease with which the actors portray their roles – for the main performers, the locations were, of course, already their second home anyway.

Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin often make for an atmospheric film, and they certainly didn't disappoint in Ocean's Eleven either! 
The rest of the cast is pretty good too, but the storyline doesn't always manage to captivate, and they take a very long time to get there.
The dialogue is sometimes quite good, but at other times a bit less interesting. Fortunately, the second half is better, and as soon as we see the atmospheric scenes in Las Vegas together with a singing Dean Martin, it is old-fashioned enjoyment all over again.
I think the film could have done quite well with half an hour less, but it is certainly not a boring way to pass the time.

An entertaining, lighthearted crime film about eleven friends who know each other from WWII and hatch a plan to rob the five largest casinos in Las Vegas in one night. The film suffers from pacing issues, with an overly sprawling first hour and a rather rushed finale, but the fun cast and often funny dialogue still make it something special. However, my preference goes to Steven Soderbergh's stylish remake.
