Black Gold plot

More than fifteen million Ethiopians are financially dependent on coffee production. While consumption is on the rise and the big coffee merchants, who have direct ties to governments, are making undeniable fortunes, the small coffee planters at the bottom of the ladder are struggling with the lowest prices in 30 years. Malnutrition threatens again for many families. Filmmakers Marc and Nick Francis traveled all over the world to map the long production line of coffee, from plantation to café. The underlying motive of the detailed analysis in 'Black Gold' is to make the viewer aware of the importance of fair trade.
