"The legend. The battle. The first hero."
D'Leh, a 21-year-old young man, lives in a primitive tribe 10,000 years BC. They survive by hunting mammoths that pass through their territory once a year. D'Leh doesn't hold much esteem in the tribe, but secretly dreams of Princess Evolet who is far beyond his reach. Weakest Emmerich.
Unfortunately, now he has to be out of my personal top 10. You'll think, why was he in it at all? Because the first best man movies I saw were really fun. Just blind, fun action that looks great, but there isn't much left of that.
The first big pain point is the dressing. What a terrible look by the actors. They look really ridiculous and the wigs really look like they came from a cheap thrift store. Much of the credibility is lost.
For the rest, the acting is not too strong. Only Curtis knows how to infuse some charm with his role. Strait and Belle both swallow quite well with acting. Now they aren't helped by mediocre character development either, but it's not too good. Plus, I thought Strait looked too contemporary.
Action is unfortunately also less. It was what I like to watch Emmerich for, but the action doesn't look too good here. Although it's nicely put together, it's just not a fun action. Especially the grandiose final phase is mostly boring and predictable action.
The film also seems to take itself too seriously. The animals do look nice in the film and that makes the adventure a bit more fun, but it is a film with little really nice material to make it all a bit smoother. I didn't get through it very hard in the end, but it is for me, the least Emmerich.
