The residents of the small town of Hadleyville face bankruptcy when the local car factory closes after 35 years. Only U-Haul Rental, the rental company is doing great business now that everyone is leaving town. Hunt, the former foreman of the factory, does not want to give up and has a plan. He travels to Japan and negotiates with the firm Assan Motors, to take over the company, and thus make the city prosper again. His plan works and Hunt becomes the hero of the city. But neither Hadleyville nor Assan Motors have factored in the culture shock yet.
