Watched this movie weeks ago. I had a hard time sleeping and certain scenes were just awful. I was sick of it.

Funny Games US is not a very special film. Moreover, it is my debut film by Michael Haneke. Not immediately convinced as far as his style is concerned. The film is rather absurd, including the protagonist who starts speaking to the viewer himself, the mobile phone that does not want to call but otherwise has signal and works, and so on. The climax was reached when Michael Pitt took the remote and started to rewind the film.

The start is still pretty decent, I got a bit of a feeling from afar that I was also in Mother! (2017) got. The feeling of unease and frustration that there are people in your home that you don't want there. The protagonists are quite successful, two creepy guys and you also know from the first moment that something is wrong with it. Bit of a shame that this ends on some cycle or other. But ok, apparently they are from a higher entity that can play with time. For me this detracted from the film that started to get really boring in the second hour. Almost nothing happens and there was too much whining. If there's one thing I hate, it's listening to bullshit. 1.5*

“Whether by knife or whether by gun, losing your life can sometimes be fun.”

strong. the first installment of Funny Games is great, with a subdued tension and an insidious calm before the storm. Michael Pitt is 'creepy as hell', and Roth and Watts are also great as a couple dealing with the murderous games of Pitt and Corbet. Roth has said he was traumatized after filming Funny Games, and I believe him directly.

After the death of Watts and Roth's son (great choice to keep the murder out of the picture and only let the screams be heard) it slows down a bit, but the last part is very strong again. The scene on the boat, and the way Watts is almost carelessly thrown overboard , is dark, very dark.
