“Well, duh, dude, this place sucks. But I just worry that one day we're gonna look back at high school and wish we'd done something different.”

Original teen film with a strong Anton Yelchin. And it's always nice to see Downey Jr. and Kat Dennings acting. Charlie Bartlett doesn't shy away from the dark themes and things like drug overuse, mental health issues, bullying, alcoholism, a father in prison subplot and even privacy issues all come up. But it is often presented in a light-hearted way, and of course the film is also about first love, sex and other common teenage problems. The result is a refreshing coming of age story.

'Charlie Bartlett' just came out of the blue, never heard of this movie. But what fun this was! Yelchin and Downey Jr. are both great in a movie that carries the perfect tone. Well-known social / philosophical problems that are presented in a very nice, not too serious and above all positive way. Charlie knows how to have fun and everyone else soon shares in the joy of high school and beyond. An atmospheric whole that has an excellent mix of drama and comedy.

Apart from the original plot about a self-proclaimed school psychiatrist, the film offers little special. The lamented Anton Yelchin is good in his role. Robert Downey Jr. as the alcoholic school principal is rather a painful reminder of his troubled past.
