Nice movie about the atrocities committed by the Japanese against the Chinese.
The film feels a little dated at times, which is quite strange for a film that was only released in 1995.
There are some nice scenes in it, such as the somewhat primitive abortion, and I also thought the mass burning was filmed very beautifully.

However, it never really becomes shocking. This is mainly because it largely fails to convince (except, again, for the burning scene, which was quite large-scale and impressive).
There are also some unintentionally hilarious bits. For example, when that Japanese general bursts out laughing for the umpteenth time.

The historical photos and videos about these acts interspersed throughout the film were interesting.
Small 3*

Within fifteen minutes, a series of impressive images and extremely brutal violence set the tone in this fourth chapter of the Men Behind the Sun series, with director Tun-Fei Mou taking over from the first film. It proves desperately needed, as the previous installments were primarily extremely cheap and cheesy, after which Mou is more concerned with overall effect and a wealth of unsavory imagery. The mass scenes are particularly strong, with a grim focus on mutilation, violence, and screams. However, the acting is very poor, and the sound editing is even amateurish. The rather confusing and poorly thought-out plot further gives the impression that this film is primarily intended to shock rather than educate, but given the status this series has acquired, the concept of education doesn't seem to me to be the primary goal of this film.
