Nice film about a TV journalist whose annual weekend with old friends does not go as usual. From a narrative point of view, the film is edited a bit messy, and the whole video surveillance doesn't make it any more believable. Still, the film remains entertaining and there are a few fine action scenes in the typical Sam Peckinpah style.

My eleventh Peckinpah film and his last.

At the moment when almost no producer wanted to work with Sam Peckinpah anymore and his health started to fail him due to a number of addictions, Peckinpah still found work. He hated the book and didn't like the script very much and attempts to rewrite it himself failed, but Peckinpah had something to do again and where he had fallen into disfavor with producers, it was different with actors. That is why this film also has a strong cast.

The weak spot is indeed the mediocre spy plot and the bad script that doesn't make it any better. Peckinpah has also lost his touch a bit. And the ending is pretty crazy. Despite that, Peckinpah still smuggles in nice touches of his style and the film is still quite exciting at times. This is not a really good film anywhere, but given the mediocre reputation of this film, it was actually not too bad for me.

The last ten years of Peckinpah's career weren't much. You could almost label this Osterman Weekend, his last film, as a B-movie and you think more of a Cannon misfire (which are sometimes even more fun) than Peckinpah. Were it not for the big names that appear in it: Hauer, Hopper, Hurt... all in the craziest roles of their careers. Sad to see. The messy story doesn't make it any better with a tension that is simply missing and twists that don't impress. Positive points are for the few action scenes that appear in it, but I mainly saw a worn out Peckinpah at work here because this has become a mess.
