Sublime plot

George Grieves is admitted to the Mt. Abaddon hospital for a standard procedure, but then soon discovers he's in much worse shape than he originally thought. And not much later, George suddenly discovers that Mt. Abaddon Hospital is not a hospital where people come in sick and go out better, but a place where sick people come in... and then die.

Quite a surprisingly nice and also good thriller. I found the story very well found and was also captivating from the first to the last minute. I also thought the structure of the film was good and the climax (also quite surprising) is excellently saved until the end. The ending was fine by the way. The cast did quite well, I had never heard of them before but they did well and then especially Tom Cavanagh, Katherine Cunningham-Eves (who also looked very beautiful) and Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs. The latter played the role of Mandingo very well and especially at the end it was really enjoyable with him. All in all a surprisingly nice thriller that also makes you think.

PS there are also some pretty rough moments in it, which is why this film will probably be labeled as a "Horror".

Hm, the film started out pretty well, but soon it became a confusing, strange film. I even felt like stopping the film, because it really couldn't captivate me anymore. But luckily I stuck it out until the end, because they still came up with some surprises and it was still a great ending. Too bad the film is largely a confusing film, otherwise it would still have been a great film.

I didn't really find the cast that special. Only the nurse stood out , but then more because of her appearance. Sometimes the film felt a bit like a TV movie to me.

The poster is not really representative of the film. The film is not such a bloody film, only towards the end it gets a bit bloodier.

I wouldn't call it a real recommendation, but thanks to the ending I'm more positive about it than I originally was going to be. Maybe try not to get too annoyed in the middle and "go with the flow" and then you might be able to catch it on TV.

Nice movie.

Story-wise, it plays its cards a bit too conspicuously, by giving all the puzzle pieces a bit too much weight by means of flashbacks. That he is in a coma should not come as a surprise, but the ending is still nicely dressed up when the woman thinks she sees happiness in his eyes. The fifteen minutes afterwards were not really necessary for me, but it is not disturbing either.

Audiovisual content is strong! Distinctive soundtrack that - in addition to some ambient - makes unusual use of guitars and bass lines. Music that you don't often hear in this genre but that is used well.
Use of color and settings work as markers of flashbacks vs nightmare and hospital vs construction site but not rigidly; it all flows nicely together into a strong whole in a dreamy atmosphere.

Maybe it starts to drag a bit here and there along the way - and there are certainly some forced elements in it - but still a nice elaboration of a mindfuck that you can easily empathize with. Remarkable debut for a fifty-year-old. 3.5*
