I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry plot

"They're as straight as can be, but don't tell anyone."

Chuck Levine and Larry Valentine are the pride of their fire brigade: you can always count on them and they are always by each other's side. Chuck, however, is an inveterate bachelor, while Larry adores his family. Once Larry saved Chuck's life so that he owes him some money and the time has come when Larry asks for something in return: they have to register as a cohabitant as a formality so that Larry's children can claim a life insurance benefit. Unfortunately, an annoying bureaucrat decides to investigate this case and the gentlemen are forced to actually live together...

Friendly.

I think it's the first time I've seen Kevin James in a better movie role, but it's disappointing that it's one of his older roles. But here he can at least play along with Sandler. Can be a bit too snippy at times, but that's part of him.

Furthermore, a fast-paced film, which certainly knows how to entertain the first hour. The last half hour (and especially that idiotic final speech) unfortunately become too corny and too moralistic. Jamer and Sandler apparently have to face the prejudice against gays every five minutes. Something more subtle would have been nice.

We did see some nice jokes, but it's a shame that it takes standard Hollywood forms again towards the end.

3.0*

“You guys really seem like you have a lot of sexual chemistry.”

Mediocre film that actually only has Jessica Biel as a plus. Well, from a male point of view, Biel is quickly a plus, but here she is very attractive. In a film about homosexuality and equal rights, that is slightly ironic.

But I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry tries to say little in depth or interesting about this subject. All clichés about homosexuals are pulled out of the closet and the necessary stereotypes dance by. The situations Sandler and James get into are shitty without getting really funny. James still puts down a sympathetic character and in the beginning there were some successful jokes. The ending tries to say something profound, but we as viewers have of course not forgotten all that has gone before. Not a high flyer.

Surprisingly fun at times, especially due to the chemistry between Sandler and the strong James. Some of the jokes are genuinely good and the pace is fine. It is only towards the end that the film is stretched unnecessarily, fifteen minutes shorter would have done a lot of good. Such a typical movie that looks nice from the couch, but nothing more, because visually, for example, there is nothing special. 3.0*.
