Typical Landes elements such as the light-hearted character and references to classics, such as the TV on which cult films are continuously shown, make this a successful film.

Anne Parillaud's performance as a female vampire is inconsistent, but Robert Loggia makes up for it as a foul-mouthed gangster boss. Excellent supporting cast, including Tom Savini, Sam Raimi, and Dario Argento, complete the picture.

The vampire aspect isn't as well-developed as I'd hoped. The film is more of an action, comedy, and thriller than a true horror. It doesn't add anything to its subgenre, like An American Werewolf in London did. Otherwise, a fine film.

A mix of crime and vampire film, with Landis primarily focused on making his own original contribution. He'd probably stick to werewolves in the future, as he wasn't particularly successful with that.

Pros:

- Sometimes humor just slips in. Loggia still provides entertainment.

- As usual with Landis, he makes a few cameo appearances from the horror film. The various vampire films starring Christopher Lee and Bela Lugosi that he occasionally shows in the background on TVs are also nods to the genre.

Negative points:

- A terribly badly cast Anne Parillaud, who is unconvincing as a vampire.

- Bad special effects. You almost forget it's a vampire movie.

I can't get further than 2.5*

A mediocre film about a female vampire who targets members of the mafia. It's an original mix of a vampire film and a mafia-inspired setting. The film lacks focus in the first half and feels a bit uneven. The second half is more enjoyable, as the comedy takes over.
