The Mice command the Oak Dwellers to make them a beautiful doll. When the doll is finished, however, the Oak Dwellers do not want to give the doll to De Muizen. To still get their hands on the doll, De Muizen put together a team to steal the doll.

Expected a bit too much from it.
Steamboy was also 10+ years in the making. The result was a rare level of detail. This film technically/visually does not rise above average anywhere. Too bad, for a film that took so long to make. I think the production time had much more to do with the "amateurism" of this project.
That being said, not a bad film per se. But you really have to like it. Stop-motion is not for everyone. Personally, I think it often gives films a wonderfully dark, "different" atmosphere. This one is no exception.
Visually it often looks a bit poor (water with visible transparent wrapping paper ...), but the designs are quite creepy, the animation only reinforces that feeling. The music is nice, but often comes a bit forced into the film.
Story is ordinary, with here and there some tempo problems. Sometimes it goes very fast, but separate scenes are again stretched out very long.
Definitely a project that could have done better, but I still hold these kinds of films close to my heart. It was beautiful to watch, great atmosphere, but it is time that these kinds of films take a step further.

Visually quite a cool thing. Nice bright colours sometimes, very dark, it looks very cheap (with little smooth animation) but somehow that fits. As for atmosphere a fine film. But content wise a lot less interesting and this style suits me better with short films, stop-motion always remains difficult to really lose myself in (exceptions aside). So despite the limited length of just over an hour I was also bored. 2.5*.
