"When days turn to weeks... the horror returns."

Six months after the outbreak of a virus in Britain, the US military says it has the disease under control. But when a carrier of the virus makes its way to the capital and falls ill, all hell breaks loose again.

Good film in which half a year after the outbreak a part of the population is busy with reconstruction. A successful sequel in which the same dark atmosphere and tone are maintained despite a different director. The chaotic camera work during the action scenes works fine here. The larger budget is visible.

Good.

28 Weeks Later, don't let grass grow over it for the first 10 minutes. A well-shot action scene is immediately presented, full of chaos and horror. Afterwards, logically, it falls silent and although the post-apocalyptic London is nicely portrayed, I'm not a big fan of that first part. You can see the family chatter coming and it doesn't add anything at all. Even afterwards, when all hell breaks loose again, I don't think the role of Robert Carlyle adds much. I like the anonymity of the unhinged mob and the murders.

But that second part is really strong, despite the fact that I often find such jerky camera work a dime - film is film, chaos has to remain manageable in a certain way. More famous heads like Jeremy Renner and certainly Rose Byrne are an excellent addition to the younger cast. Also nice that, if they have to be written out of the film, they do that as if they were extras.

Excluding the final scene, so a very strong last half hour. The helicopter scene stands out when it comes to action. And also in terms of gore, although I'm not really sensitive to that. Horror doesn't necessarily have to be nasty or extremely gory for me. I prefer it without too much frills. And director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo eventually does.

3.5
