It seems like 28 Years Later - a sequel to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later - is finally materialising,
28 Days Later, directed by Danny Boyle, was released in 2002 and was a commercial and critical success, earning $85 million worldwide from a budget of just $8m. A sequel, 28 Weeks Later, arrived five years later, but it was Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who sat in the director's chair for that one.
Though Boyle would remain as a producer on the sequel, he was unable to direct due to his commitments on Sunshine. There has long been speculation about what a '28 Years Later' movie would look like, and according to Boyle, writer Alex Garland has already penned a script.
"I'd be very tempted (to direct it). It feels like a very good time actually," he previously told NME.
"It's funny. I hadn't thought about it until you just said it, and I remembered 'Bang, this script!' which is again set in England, very much about England. Anyway, we'll see... who knows?
"I instantly knew the film (28 Days Later) was something very special. I remember reading the first ten pages thinking, 'This is brilliant'.
"It was like a quarter of a page. He wanders around London on his own and you just thought, 'Oh my God!'"
And now, According to The Hollywood Reporter, 28 Years Later is definitely happening and could actually act as the start of a new trilogy with Boyle involved in all three in some capacity.

Would Cillian Murphy return?
Cillian Murphy starred in the first movie but did not take part in the second, with an entirely new cast on board for 28 Weeks Later.
However, it seems that if Boyle and Garland return, Murphy would be up for a return, too.
"I think there's a problem with that, in that I'm 20 years older," he admitted.
"But every time I do bump into Danny or Alex I always mention it. Because I showed it to my kids recently, some Halloween about four or five years ago, and they loved it.
"It really stands up, which is amazing for a film that's 20 years old. So yeah, I love the idea and it's very appealing to me."
