The Scar of Shame plot
The brilliant Alvin Hillyard received a solid upbringing and education which led to a successful career as a concert pianist. He marries a beautiful girl, Louise Howard, to save her from being brutally beaten by her drunken father. They love each other dearly and for a short time their life is very pleasant. But when Alvin visits his dying mother, he refuses to bring Louise with him. His mother learns that Alvin is married but finds that he is married below his means. Feeling betrayed, Louise tears her marriage certificate, removes the ring from her finger and packs her things. She's leaving and that will have major consequences, both for her and for Alvin.
