Museum Belvédère - De Droom van Thom Mercuur plot
In this documentary with interviews by K. Schippers, you can see how an 'impossible dream' became reality. In his boyhood, Thom Mercuur (1940), born in Friesland, was not, like his peers, only filled with the Frisian football player Abe Lenstra. The young Mercuur dreamed of building a personal museum, a gigantic 'diorama', in the middle of the country. The work had to be done by Frisian artistic loners, painters such as Boele Bregman, Tames Oud, Willem van Althuis, Sjoerd de Vries, Christiaan Kuitwaard and Jan Snijder. The film shows how Mercuur's dream was thwarted by all kinds of setbacks.
