Venus plot

Maurice, Ian and Donald are three retirees who gather every day at their favorite pub to raise a glass, feel sorry for the current state of the world and give each other well-placed stitches. The ravages of time have slowed down their bodies, but not their agile brains. The story begins when old suitor Ian eagerly awaits the arrival of a niece's teenage daughter, the girl comes to take care of him. On arrival, the cheeky teaser Jessie turns out to be the opposite of what he expected: for example, he had bought her a copy of one of Bach's Passions, but the girl prefers MTV anyway. It doesn't take long before Ian runs up the walls from sheer frustration at his guest's antics. But Maurice, a somewhat well-known actor, begins to really like the energetic young woman and soon the two go everywhere together. He takes her to the theater and she takes him to the discotheques. Maurice discovers and experiences his second youth... and age has done nothing to dampen his desire for feminine beauty.

Small, beautifully performed film about an aging actor (Peter O'Toole) who enters into an erotically charged friendship with a teenager who comes to live with his best friend. The Lolita-like element is credibly and subtly worked out; nowhere does the film get bogged down in flat and/or rancid conditions. O'Toole is great as a cynical horny old man. The film has sensible things to say and is often very funny. Also quite gripping towards the end.

This wasn't a bad movie yet. Not a great story, but still manages to captivate, partly because of the acting. It came across convincingly. It is not as great a film as Notting Hill, rather small but nice. It was also a pleasant soundtrack.

I had no expectations for this film and it did not disappoint me. Worth a try and I found it for a reasonable price (5 films for 5 €).

Beautiful, small and special film. I haven't seen anything like this before. The movie really intrigued me. Jessie (Jodie Whittaker) kept getting more and more beautiful. As a viewer I also started to feel a certain love for her. She sparked interest. I think the acting is very good, I think it's beautifully portrayed and it's one of those films that really pulled me into the story. For some reason I think it's fitting that he's British. I like British movies anyway. I give this more than an 8. 4*
