Solyaris is a psychological drama that, like that other SF classic 2001: a space odyssey, tries to find answers to philosophical questions. And like 2001, that's not really something that fascinates me in a movie. Where 2001 was still visually progressive, I do miss that with Solyaris. The film is certainly not beautiful. Maybe one day I'll be able to appreciate 2001, but I'm afraid it will take a little longer with Solyaris.

At the beginning of the film, the recreated (grand)paternal house in its idyllic surroundings is shown in very beautiful images. Kris Kelvin voluntarily exposes herself to a rain shower on the terrace where a teacup catches drops.

The coverage of meetings about the planet's problems may be a bit long-winded. You might want to fast forward to when Khari appears on the spaceship. Who is she? A resemblance to the mythical figure of Euridice comes to mind. The exciting part of the story is how Khari develops her own consciousness and discovers herself. Kris really only plays a supporting role in this.
