I didn't like it. Of course the film has a lot of clichés, and this is really made for teenagers and this is just the lesser version of Grease, but it still looks good. The high society of today's child stars with Hudgens and Tisdale, and they ensure that HSM has become a real 'brand'. Songs are bad, but the film does radiate campiness. I especially liked the role of Tisdale, so over the top, so thick, she plays such a huge stereotypical bitch of the school role. I like it. Nice movie, although I have no idea how they plan to fill the other two movies.

High School Musical. I've seen this movie quite often. That is, very often seen pieces of it. The girl from work, age 13, was madly in love with Zac Efron. It's 'out' these days, because Justin Bieber is 'in', but 3 years ago he was a huge hype. Every time I went to work, she had the movie on and sang every song from front to back. I personally didn't like it much, but I have to admit that the more I saw 'loose bits', the more curious I became about the whole film. Because god, those songs are catchy. They can easily stay in your head all day long. When I was on night shift once, I watched High School Musical with her from start to finish. And I'm smooth.

It starts with a wonderful karaoke show from Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens). I love karaoke! The opening track is immediately very sweet and cute. It is instantly sparkling and magical. Sure, the people are all just a little too perfect and too beautiful, but oh well. And yes, the clichés also pile up sky-high, but after all, it is a children's film.

It is a touching film about love at first sight, adolescent problems and the whole high school thing is also fun. In particular the (slimier) songs like 'Start of Something New' and 'Breaking Free' are nice songs. Nothing wrong with this kind of High School movies.

“Well, you sound like you've done a lot of singing, too.”

“Yeah, my showerhead is very impressed with me.”

Ah yes, High School Musical. The cheerfulness is there, some songs remain and at least the actors can sing... Efron is really bad, but luckily Tisdale and Hudgens know how to raise the level a bit. The best thing is actually to put on Spring Breakers after this movie. "Quite the change, Miss Hudgens."
