The story about the boy Tristan, who wants to win the heart of his beloved Victoria. For this, he goes in search of a shooting star named Yvaine, who leads him to a magical world. Here he has to face the evil witch Lamia and the pirate Captain Shakespeare.

Nice movie. The trailer suggests something very spectacular, but in fact it is a heartwarming and occasionally quite comical fairy tale with a good cast. The images are also fine, albeit not overwhelming. So definitely a nice surprise. At the time, this completely passed me by but glad to have come across it after all.

Stardust is fun, imaginative, uncomplicated, entertaining and at times quite hilarious. The film drums up many classic fantasy archetypes (the evil witches, the evil heir to the throne, pirates, the 'little' hero), but dares to do this with a quip and a smile. The ghosts of the dead princes were hilariously recurring jokes, for example, and Robert De Niro's character Captain Shakespeare is absolutely brilliant and endearing in the way it spins stereotypes on their heads. And all this without the film ever feeling insincere or ironic; despite the fact that Stardust doesn't take itself very seriously, the characters, the emotions, the messages and the whole world come across very sincere. It's a thin line to balance on, but director Matthew Vaughn manages it wonderfully. The fact that it is based on a book by the great writer Neil Gaiman will help with this, but you still have to be able to convert it successfully into film language, of course. Visually, the film also looks imaginative, colorful and authentic. A good mix between CGI and practical sets/locations.
There is not much more to say about it, but I was able to enjoy it for two hours. The cheesy happy ending is about it, but of course it fits with the fairytale and almost mythical atmosphere that the film was going for. It's kind of a fantasy movie that, at least at the moment, isn't really being made anymore. I'm definitely not a Marvel or superhero hater, but how I would love to see some more of this instead of just another reboot of the same superhero.
